During her studies in fundamental physics, Marie Piraud got interested in multi-scale systems, which are intrinsically difficult to model both mathematically and numerically. After majoring in quantum physics, she investigated quantum disordered materials for her PhD, and then focused on the study of topological insulators. In 2016, she joined the Image-Based Biomedical Modeling Group of the Technical University of Munich, where she transfers some of those ideas to the medical realm. She works in particular on the development of methods combining model-based approaches and data-based machine learning techniques. Indeed, joining forces of the previously acquired biophysical knowledge with powerful techniques of artificial intelligence is a very exciting and meaningful avenue to better modelisation and predictions.
